The Alchemy of Knowledge: Science and Mystery from Shakespeare to AI

Opening March 13

Galleries are open Monday-Friday, 10 AM-5 PM and second Saturdays 10 AM-2 PM.

What Are Exhibitions at the Linda Hall Library?

Linda Hall Library exhibitions offer exclusive access to one of the world's most significant collections of rare scientific books and manuscripts, materials that have shaped centuries of discovery.

Each exhibition reflects the Library's purpose: to deepen humanity's understanding and appreciation of science and its integral role in shaping our world.

What makes our exhibitions unique:

Rare Texts

Many items displayed have never been exhibited publicly. You'll encounter original works from pivotal moments in scientific history. Many of these books are the source texts that changed how we see the universe.

Scholarship Meets Storytelling

Our curatorial team transforms deep historical research into immersive narratives that connect past breakthroughs to present questions. Rather than viewing the books as scientific relics, they are put into immersive contexts that help shape the ideas of their time.

Beyond the Gallery

Exhibitions connect to our broader collection and extend into our historic Main Reading Room, specialized collections, and 16-acre Arboretum, creating layered experiences that move between architecture, landscape, and ideas.

Open-Ended

Stories are told, and questions are raised, but answers are often a matter of perspective and critical inquiry. The viewer is in dialogue with historic texts and the scientists behind them, and they are as much a part of the exhibition as the books themselves.

Free & Open

All exhibitions are free. We believe transformative encounters with science and history should be accessible to everyone.
